I hadn't remembered this from Blackfern Girls. I obviously need to revisit the book. Oh Liz, this just may be my favorite story of yours, and that's saying something. The kitchen scene with mama! Made my blood run cold. Just so unbelievably excellent.

I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I like that scene, too. The first inkling that not everything is a scam with the Pinkneys. And Rumkin was fun to write!

Brilliant.

The description of the father stood out to me. It was especially grounded, and I understood why and how Juliet would do anything he asked.

Yes! She was definitely a daddy’s girl. They were the same in their practical view or the world (even if he was a little shady, lol).

I read "The Skeptic" Part One and I loved it. You do a really good job of building atmosphere with just the right amount of descriptive detail such as: "“Tear it right out of the ground like a rotten tooth,” says Ford Waterhouse. “Foundations and all.” The suspense builds and the characters are becoming real. Bravo.

Thanks so much, Jim! It’s from my book, Blackfern Girls. I liked those stories, and I thought, “Why not dust them off and share them?” This one had a Halloween theme, so…
