"When the fever took me, she called me back and made me her creature." That made me stop in my tracks--so creepy! Fabulous start to spooky season!

This is my only zombie story (to date), and I creeped myself out! Part of the inspiration for this came from White Zombie, a great old film starring Bela Lugosi.

Lizz, just read this a second time, because life got in the way and I was speed reading the first time. This might be one of your best, for me anyway. That short break you took served you well ma'am. Thanks for sharing. - Jim

Thanks, Jim! I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I think a periodic break is a good therapy for writers. Keeps the brain from overheating, lol.

Fabulous Liz. The break did you good. I love the name Odell for the old crone. Perfect. - Jim

Thanks, Jim! I did need the break, lol. I’m not sure I will be able to return to my weekly posting schedule (things on the worktable are looking sort of behemoth rather than short stories lately) but I have enough stuff for October!

Thanks, Keyon! They are fun, aren’t they? The time period lends itself well to moody tales.

And it’s very much the season for moody tales!

Yours is some of the best writing I've come across here, Liz. This piece drew me in and I raced along with it to the end, only to go back and read it again slowly to appreciate the wonderful language and the turn of phrase. Just excellent.
